On Thursday morning a loud rumbling noise in Cambrae Road startled Raglan resident Tui Deller and his son Dakota. The rumble preceded a truck and digger crashing through their front fence. Tui said, ” I have always been worried about vehicles coming down the steep part of Cambrae Road and crashing into my home. That’s why I built the concrete block wall last year.”
Brakes appear to have failed on an unoccupied Raglan Hire Centre truck with a Bobcat digger on its tray causing it to run down Cambrae Road . The digger driver, who was still in the digger at the time, was lucky to escape alive from the incident as the truck careered down Cambrae Road, knocking down a citrus tree, then demolishing a concrete block wall, before coming to rest in Tui’s front yard and stopping millimetres short of his ute. Then the Bobcat fell off the truck. Tui Deller was more concerned about the digger driver than his wall. He said the wall had saved his house.
