Raglan’s population keeps going up. New figures released by the Waikato District Council indicate that the population of the Raglan Ward has gone up by 28% from the 2013 Census to mid 2015. The Raglan Ward area goes from the north of Raglan Harbour down to Aotea Harbour.
On the census night in 2013 the population of the Raglan Ward was 4,290. The new data based on the population estimate as at 30th June 2015 shows the population as 5,510.
There has been a similar increase for the Raglan Community Board area with the population increasing from 3,400 to 4,160.
Love to hear updates about Raglan thankyou
That’s what they said in 2012 – https://www.raglan23.co.nz/2012/raglan-population-up/, but then the 2013 census showed an increase of only 99.
The 99 is only for the Raglan statistical area – it leaves out a large part of the town and the rural area.
The Stats Dept, who produce these estimates for the Raglan Ward, take account of births, deaths, immigration, building consents and a few other factors when they estimate the population. 28% growth does seem very high so there may be something wrong with their model for Raglan- dwelling occupancy levels?. Looking at the NZ Transport Agency’s record of annual average daily traffic on SH 23 near Wrights Rd, the count went up from 3655 to 4102 from 2013 to 2015 – a 12% increase. While it includes vehicle traffic for visitors and commercial as well as residents that seems a more believable increase than the 28%.
