Stolen Boat
Mela Levinsohn of Te Akau has had their means of transport to and from Raglan stolen last night. It is a Ramco Ranger 12ft Aluminium tinny with a black Mercury Motor. She is offering a small reward.
New drink driving laws
From 1 December the limit for drivers over 20 lowers from 400mcg of alcohol per litre of breath to 250mcg, and from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood (0.08), to 50mg (0.05). For drivers under 20, the limit remains zero.
Adult drivers blowing 251-400mcg of alcohol per litre of breath will receive an infringement notice ($200) and 50 demerit points. Those over 400mcg will face criminal charges, as now.
With the new drink driving laws it’s appropriate therefore to remind you all about the Raglan liquor ban.
Currently, the liquor ban in Raglan extends along Bow Street from the roundabout at Bankart/James Street through to and including the jetty , Wi Neera Street, Bankart Street and Wainui Rd to Stewart St. This is in effect 24hrs a day/all year.
The beaches, parks and reserves have a liquor ban from 10pm to 10am. Again this is all year round.
From 23 December to 6 January every year the liquor ban extends to include the whole of the Raglan area, and includes Te Uku, Te Mata, Raglan, Ruapuke and is 24hrs over this period.
Police have the power to arrest anyone for breach of liquor ban offending and place them in front of a court. We also have $200 instant fines that we can issue. I’m sure everyone can think of better things to spend $200 on!
As usual, there will be additional Police in Raglan over the coming holiday season. We hope that everyone has a safe Xmas & New Year.
