Artists taking part in the Anniversary Weekend, Raglan Open Studio weekend reported large numbers of visitors to their studios.  The day got off to a damp start after overnight rain.  This soon cleared providing a perfect day for visiting studios.

Thirty six Raglan Artists have their studios open for the 3 day Open Studio Event Weekend on Auckland Anniversary Weekend, January 29th, 30th, 31st 2011. For the three days painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media, textile, jewellery, and other artists will open their studios to the public for viewing.  In addition to the artists with open studios, a number of the artists will be based at the Old School Arts Centre in Stewart Street.   Some of these artists are working on new creations at the Old School over the weekend.  The Clay Shed pottery behind the Old School is also open. (At Old School: Denise Fort, Ethereal Designs, Patricia Strauss, Sarah Steed, The Clay Shed potters, Trevor Penfold, Yann Bordier, Lois Tylee and Kathie Parres.)

Whale Bay based artist Miranda Jane Caird is working on a new painting, “Kea at Cloud Nine” over the weekend.  She is posting regular updates on Facebook of her progress.

Visitors have been meeting artists, seeing their working processes and being inspired.  This is a unique opportunity to see into the studio of an artist and to catch a glimpse of what goes into making their art.  The participating artists are all listed as part of a revitalized and expanded Raglan Art Trail Guide, the official Open Studio Weekend Guide.  The guide is available from the Raglan Information Centre, Raglan Old School Arts Centre, participating artists and I-sites throughout the region or you can download it by clicking here.

The artist studios are open from 10am to 2pm on January 29th, 30th, 31st 2011.  At other times phone or email each artist using the details in the guide and make an appointment to view.  The guide is current for the whole year of 2011.
