Schick Construction were hard at work today laying concrete kerbs as part of the Waikato District Council ‘Urban Upgrade’ of Raglan’s Main Road from East Street to just before Norrie Avenue. Although Council still say the project is due to be completed by noon on the 30th April, this seems unlikely given the work still required. The project started in mid March with installation of storm water drains and other services. Schick have only eight days left to complete this $359,213.50 project. As well as kerbing, formation of some of the foundations for new footpaths is underway at the moment.
Councillor Baddeley said that the works were another step in the continuing initiatives to improve the appearance and safety for visitors coming into Raglan. He said, “The storm water drainage improvements are something that has asked for by many residents to stop flooding and run-off problems in this area.”
Work still to be started includes reshaping of the existing pavement, surfacing with asphaltic concrete, roadmarking and restoration of grass verges.
Drivers should slow down and be prepared to stop along the road works as at times traffic flow is restricted to one lane and one direction at a time only.
