The Raglan Library and Council Office at 7 Bow St will increase in size by 20 square metres in 2014.  This is about the size of the existing public area in front of the Council counter.  The increase will be achieved by replacing and moving the shop front out by five metres. The work includes work on fixing the roof which leaked badly in a severe storm in 2010 causing the destruction of many books.

General Manager Customer Support Sue Duignan told Raglan 23 that Waikato District Council’s Raglan Office and Library will undergo renovations in 2014 to address the leaking roof and the need for more space.

Ms Duignan said that the work will involve:

  • Replacing and moving the shop front out by five metres, creating an additional 20 square metres of internal space.
  • Removing an interior wall for more space.
  • Replacing the existing counters.
  • Installing a new toilet for the disabled.
  • Installing a new roof, new guttering and new flashings as well as replacement of all the high level window seals.

The work is extensive and the library is expected to be relocated to another building in Raglan for approximately three months while the project is carried out.

The design phase is nearly complete and it is hoped tenders will be called for in December this year.

The work is expected to commence in March 2014 after the busy holiday period.

The revamped Raglan Library project has featured in Mayor Allan Sanson’s election campaign advertising in a list of what he has achieved for Raglan.
