The Xtreme Zero Waste Raft Race got underway at 1.30pm on Saturday 18th. Rafts entered were made of at least 80% recyclable materials – including the paddles and this year any rafts from previous years had to be altered in some way to compete again this year. Alterations needed to be over at least 20% of the raft. This latter requirement restriction may have been the reason for the number of entries being down on previous years.

The unofficial results for the 2017 Recycled Raft Race were:
- Raglan Kindergarten
- Xtreme Jetstream
- Waitetuna School
- Kura St Raiders
- Maui’s Starship
- The Scottish Grunt
