From time to time, old photos of Raglan pop up on TradeMe. When they look interesting I make a bid. The one above is a composite from two photos taken in January 1928 from where Tidd Drive is now, off Stewart Street.
At that time the headmaster’s house was where Tidd Drive is now. The flagpole in the centre of the photo was located on the grass bank above what is now front courtyard of the Old School Arts Centre. Stewart Street appears to be a grassed area with just footpaths on each side.
Notes on the back of the photos say, “Lower part of harbour and part of Raglan heads from school house” and “Raglan township and bridge taken from school house.”
