Roading, street lights and footpaths in Raglan are set to get a $300,000 upgrade this financial year.
Waikato District Council and the Raglan Community Board recently signed off on this year’s capital street works programme which includes spending $172,000 on the kerb and channelling upgrade along Norrie Avenue and Point Street.
A further $90,000 will be spent on upgrading the town’s street lighting and the balance will cover minor improvements associated with the reseal project.
Waikato District Council General Manager Service Delivery Tim Harty says Council is placing an emphasis on improving the overall community environment to enhance the customer’s experience.
“Our focus is to help create a safer environment for communities in the Waikato district and one of the ways we can do that is by improving and maintaining roads, footpaths and street lighting. We want to enhance our customers experience in our communities.”
The street works programme will get underway in Council’s summer construction period between November to March 2014.
It would be a major safety initiative, if residents of Opotoru Road were blessed with a footpath, particularly for school children and mothers with toddlers. This would seem to be a very necessary & urgent project.
The Raglan Community Board has put more footpaths high on our priority list – unfortunately Waikato District Council saw fit to allocate no money for footpaths in its Annual Plan. The ones referred to in the Council’s media release are associated with road works.
