Two candidates from Raglan have been nominated for next month’s WEL Energy Trust election. One person standing this time is on-then off, Dave Currie who was elected in 2008, became Chairman, then resigned in 2009. This caused a problem for the Trust and they left the position vacant rather than face the expense of having a by-election. Mr Currie is the Chef de mission for New Zealand’s 2012 Olympic Team. Last week he flew to London for the first of three site visits, 14 months out from the opening ceremony. He is looking for up to 300 beds for the team.
The other local is Alan Vink, a Raglan based consultant who heads the Raglan Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Raglan Community Board.
There are 18 other candidates including all six current trustees. The triennial election will be held June 25 and voting papers will be mailed to 125,000 eligible voters on June 10. All Raglan residents over 18 years of age on the parliamentary roll are eligible to vote as they live within the WEL Networks supply area .
