Raglan Community Board members to be urban/ rural

An revised representation proposal for Raglan and other parts of the Waikato District Council now has an option for an urban/ rural split of Raglan Community Board members.

An extraordinary meeting of the Waikato District Council to be held via Audio Visual Conference on TUESDAY, 28 SEPTEMBER 2021 will vote on the revised proposal. A spokesperson for WDC when asked why this was proposed when no Raglanites had asked for it said, “There were a number of submissions (over 130) requesting that rural voices be heard at all levels of governance and whilst they may have come from the northern part of the district they are still listening to the overall message to retain/increase a rural voice at all levels of governance. This coupled with the other mesh blocks added into the board area (which are predominantly lifestyle/rural), the decision from Council was to be consistent by incorporating a rural voice for the Raglan community board also.”

The proposal also includes the new General and Maaori wards for the Whaaingaroa area.
