Analysis of Raglan Community Board May Agenda provided by John Lawson of Whaingaroa Enviromental Defence:

The agenda is at http://waidc.govt.nz/CMSFiles/8d/8dc9e3f6-c626-4be5-af98-8108a607ac23.pdf. Items on the agenda include –
Water Supply draft bylaw – all supplies to be metered, charge for checking meter accuracy unless faulty, WDC can estimate if meter not working, new houses to have 5m3 rain-water tanks.
Meter installation to be done in May/June [at the March meeting our councillor said this was not meter installation, despite the heading].
Treatment plant upgrade – design to be complete by May [March agenda said February].
Whale Bay sewage – report on tenders “currently in progress”.
Wharf phone line for fire alarm to be in by 3 May. Work to stop odour from chip shop going into other parts of building to be charged to tenant.
Xtreme Waste food trial talk given to WDC.
Coastal Reserves Committee – minutes 8 Apr – motorbikes not allowed on beaches, horse droppings, dogs at Te Kopua, footbridge lights out.
Keeping of Animals draft bylaw – no pigs, roosters, or more than 12 hens in town.
Long St/John St sections on paper road – offers received [for sale since 2008]
Sunday bus – agreement with Chamber of Commerce “almost complete” [The bus has been running since 7 April, initially with an average 9 passengers a day]
Discretionary funding $8,199 in fund. Community House wants $1,750 for Snow on the Beach on 15 June. Fri 12 July is the deadline for the next funding round.
This is another very light agenda, unless Board members pursue some items. Maybe reflecting the fact that some Board members feel frustrated by WDC and don’t intend to stand for re-election this spring? Let me know if you think WED should be taking up other issues not on the agenda, or holding a meeting to discuss the spring elections and how Whaingaroa might be better governed.
Friends of Wainui is having a special work-day from 10.30am on Sunday 19 May (meet at car park up the road from Harbour Care nursery) to prepare for new tree planting. Please bring a spade and help fill in the gaps in the canopy.
Thanks
John.

I am surprised that John finds this agenda ‘light’. e.g. The water metering paper gives the Board an opportunity to discuss: the lack of a defined supply point, the extravagent water metering project and the Eco Bling approach of having expensive small water tanks on each property that provide no water during the peak demand period in summer.
Whether they take the opportunity given is up to the Board members.
That’s why I added “unless Board members pursue some items”. Did they?
