Forms need to be returned to the Raglan Council office by 20th October

Raglan Community Board is currently preparing its input into priorities for Waikato District’s Long Term Plan. To obtain community input the Board arranged for a multiple choice sheet to go in this week’s issue of the Raglan Chronicle. Options suggested range from a heated swimming pool to a new footpath from Whale Bay to Manu Bay. There is space provided for Raglanders to write in another project. The forms have to be returned by the 20th October to the Raglan Council office.  See below for the full text of the survey.

The word on Bow St is that some Raglanders are asking for more information about the priority projects.  At a Raglan Residents & Ratepayers Association meeting on Thursday 9th, the projects were discussed and the group decided that options such as “Minor works on Raglan Streets” would mean little to most residents and that a public discussion of the options prior to the 20 October deadline would be helpful. They decided to add the priority project issue list to the agenda for Residents & Ratepayers Assoc. AGM on the 18th October at the Fire Station.

The Association’s President, Bob MacLeod, said, “It’s a very welcome innovation that Raglan people are being consulted about their priorities, but, to be meaningful, they not only need the opportunity to respond, but also the opportunity to understand and discuss the pros and cons of the various options. They also need to know what options didn’t make it on to the list of 13, such as the proposal for a multi-purpose sports hall.” Bob added that, as a Community Board member, he has had much more information and he’ll be pleased to share that at the meeting and hear from others about the merits of the options.

The Residents & Ratepayers meeting on Saturday 18 October at 10am in the Fire Station on Wainui Rd will be open to all who want to learn and talk about Raglan’s future.

John Lawson added his thoughts on the list, “One of the 13 options is to increase bus services to and from Hamilton, but Raglan Community Board has also pursued the Raglan Naturally proposal for buses to the beaches and around town to ease some of the parking problems, as well as improving options for tourists and locals who don’t want to use their cars as much. A draft of the regional transport plan indicates that Raglan might, like Huntly and Ngaruawahia, get an hourly bus when the bus contract is renewed in 2017.”
