Raglan Coastguard unit recognised for their service

Coastguard Raglan received the Coastguard Northern Region Unit of the Year (Tasman Operational Area) award last night at their Annual General Meeting for their commitment to Coastguard throughout 2012.

In recognition of their efforts, the Raglan unit was awarded with a certificate by Coastguard Northern Region’s Chief Executive Officer, David Tommas.

Mr Tommas says, “Coastguard Northern Region is extremely grateful to all those who donate their time and Coastguard Raglan is an outstanding example of a unit of volunteers who have a real and dedicated passion to the organisation and our mission of saving lives at sea.
“The entire community benefits from the work of our volunteers and we’re so pleased to be able to extend our recognition to units like Coastguard Raglan.”

The award forms part of Coastguard’s ‘People First Strategy’, an ongoing commitment by the organisation to recognise the many New Zealanders who donate their time and energy to keeping people safe on the water.

Wally Hawkin, Coastguard Raglan’s President, says that the unit was thrilled to be the recipient of the 2012 award and look forward to continuing their work with Coastguard.

“We have so many dedicated volunteers and it’s humbling to know that our unit has been recognised for our commitment to Coastguard”, says Mr Hawkin.

Coastguard Northern Region is the charity saving lives at sea. It has over 1,000 volunteers and in the last year, brought 4,615 people home to safety.
