The number of Raglan businesses on the market is up with eco accommodation provider Solscape, and night club/ bar The Yot Club having recently been listed as for sale. They join design store Husk, ice cream/ kebab shop Raglan Rollup, hair & beauty salon Essence, restaurant Vinnies and accommodation provider Raglan Backpackers which have all been on the market for a little while.
After what many Raglan businesses have been saying has been a very good summer season, it seems that these businesses believe they have a strong profit and loss statement so now is a good time to sell.
A couple of months ago, Solscape was advertising a partnership opportunity saying that partners could secure a share of this unique icon or potentially negotiate full purchase. The features of Solscape were advertised as:
- Established Eco tourism operation showing substantial growth.
- Diverse accommodation offering 13 backpacker cabooses, 6 self contained baches, 6 tipis, 2 earthen round houses, camp sites and 3 sets of communal facilities plus 3 bedroom Manager’s residence.
- Superb location near Manu Bay with spectacular views of surf, sea, beach, harbour and mountain.
- In house surf school, massage room, solar hot water throughout.
- Resource consent and plans for future projects.
Rather than the earlier partnership offer, owners of Solscape, Bernadette Gavin and Phil McCabe have now decided to sell the whole business by tender. They said, “We feel that we have taken Solscape as as far as we can and are confident that the right people will arrive to carry her forward in a positive way.”
The other Raglan business just on the market is The YOT Club. Owner Peter Coddington is moving on after six years. In that time he has developed it into what is acknowledged as one of the best small music venues in the country with a steady progression of top acts lining up for bookings. Known affectionately as the Yottie, it caters mainly for the younger age group with its music and other gigs, attracting Raglan locals, Raglan tourists and Hamiltonians looking for a night of action away from the Tron.
I am looking for a restaurant or cafe to leas in Raglan
I’m told that Raglan cafe owners are all fairly happy with their operations or plans at the moment.
Valente’s Cafe recently closed without a purchaser for the business and the chattels were sold. The building and leasehold was also sold recently by LJ Hooker. It may be worth talking to them about the intentions of the building’s new owner.
