Recent chit-chat on Bow Street has been about what the Council are doing on the jetty reserve at the end of Bow Street. At the recent place making meeting in the Town Hall supper room, Sheryl Hart suggested that it could be the next place making project. After Council contractors installed a new pipeline two years ago the area had been left muddy and the resown grass never took properly. In March 2013 the Waikato Council installed new picnic tables in the reserve as well as new rubbish bins.
Raglan 23 asked the Council about the current work.
- What is the project purpose and what type of paving is being laid? A. “The path at the jetty is part of our standard footpath and walkway maintenance programme and will address the issue of low-lying areas becoming muddy due to water pooling. Outdoor furniture and rubbish bins will also be re-arranged to suit the footpath traffic.”
- If a plan is available please supply a copy. A. No response
- What is its cost? A. “Approximately $70,000”
- When will it be completed? A. “Completion due the end of next week.”
- Who is the contractor? A. “Strada”
- Which of the following were briefed on the project? Cr Clint Baddeley, RCB Chair Linda Cole, Raglan Community Board. A. “Cr Baddeley was aware of the minor programme as he had been receiving a number of complaints about the issue.”
In late May on Facebook, John Lawson asked the Raglan Community Board if it knew about the work:
“Did the Board have a say in what seem to be end of financial year “let’s use up the budget” projects and, if so, why were they chosen? So far I’ve noticed new paths being put on the jetty, a new rock wall covering the beach at Aerodrome Bridge and a plan to replace the ford on Wainui Reserve with a bridge. What others are there?”
Raglan Community Board replied saying, “Raglan Community Board Raglan Action, Issues, Works & Correspondence Reports to the RCB for the last seven years have not informed the Board prior to works commencing. This is an issue that is under improvement with good communications.”
