HAVE YOUR SAY ON OUR ART DISPLAY
Waikato district primary school students have been busy creating works of art for the Waikato District Matariki Festival and we need your help to pick a winner.
Run by the Waikato District Libraries, the Matariki Celebration Primary School Art Competition was open to all primary schools in the district and required participants to create a poster, display board or display table within one of the four Matariki themes; Mahi Toi (The Arts), Mahi Kai (Food), Taio (The Environment), and Rangitahi (Youth).
The artwork will be displayed at Huntly Library from today until 5 July where it will be judged by Waikato district Mayor Allan Sanson, along with a People’s Choice vote open to the public.
Following the voting period the artwork will remain on display at the library until the prize giving on July 12 at 11am, which everyone is welcome to attend.
General Manager Customer Support Sue Duignan said nine primary schools from across the district participated in the competition.
“It was great to see such an enthusiastic response from the schools involved. The artwork we have received so far is very creative, colourful and of a high standard.”
Ms Duignan encouraged the public to take the opportunity to go and view the display and cast their People’s Choice vote.
Following the prize giving the artwork will be returned to the library it originally came from for further display.
