Although NZ Post still won’t confirm that the Raglan PostShop will be moving to the SuperValue, only saying it is in advanced stages of negotiations, it has sent a letter to all holders of post office boxes in Raglan advising them that the move will be taking place in February.
For the last few weeks, the poll on Raglan 23 has been about just where people would like the PostShop to be. The question we put was, “NZ Post are closing the Post Shop for seismic reasons. and people were given the option of saying whether they should put the Post Shop should go in, A shop of its own, The Library, The new Four Square, The Wharf, The SuperValue, or the Bow St Dairy.”
While most people (54%) preferred the PostShop to be in a shop of its own, a surprising 27% thought it should go in the Library. The place where it is moving to, the SuperValue, only received two votes.
We asked NZ Post why they were relocating the PostShop to a site indicated as less popular in the poll. A spokesperson said, “New Zealand Post is committed to providing postal and banking services in Raglan. We are advanced in our discussions with SuperValue.”
The existing PostShop and Kiwibank is expected to close on Friday 14th February. The new post office box lobby will reopen the following day at the SuperValue on Saturday 15th at 9am. Access to the lobby will only be available when the SuperValue is open from 7am to 8pm. Post office box holders will require new keys for their boxes. NZ Post said that there will be no charge for the new keys as we don’t charge customers for new keys when a Box Lobby location changes.”
Kiwibank will reopen at the new location on Monday 17th February.
The full results of the poll were:
- A shop of its own (54%, 26 Votes)
- The Library (27%, 13 Votes)
- The new Four Square (13%, 6 Votes)
- The Wharf (4%, 2 Votes)
- The Supervalue (2%, 1 Votes)
- The Bow St Dairy (0%, 0 Votes)
A total of 48 people voted. Thanks for taking part in the poll.
So is the Kiwi Bank Staying in Raglan as well?
I think this whole situation is wrong for a growing town to be losing a important business which should be stand alone in its own building.
I can not see how Supervalue will cope, as just buying food can take ages go through the check outs with the long lines and lack of staff.
NZ Post have told PO Box holders that Kiwibank will also be in the SuperValue. Like you I don’t see how it will all work. Perhaps the hardware department will disappear from the SuperValue and it will go there.
This is a bad move for SuperValue and also for NZ Post / Kiwibank.
10 Bankart is surely an option that NZ Post could have used as a location if they have to move.
