Waikato District Council news
The 3 P’s message of only putting pee, poo and paper down the loo will be out in force again this Labour weekend in Raglan.
Waikato District Councillor Lisa Thomson and the Raglan Community Board will have a stand between Ray White and Jet this Saturday 21st between 10am-2pm and then at the Raglan Creative Market in Stewart Street on Sunday 22nd between 10am-2pm.
“Raglan lights up over summer and what better way to get our message across than target the locals and visitors over Labour weekend,” Cr Thomson says.
in 2016/17, 81 per cent of wastewater overflows across the district were caused by things like wipes, sanitary hygiene products such has pads and tampons, fats, oils and grease, cotton buds, nappies and rags being put down the loo and kitchen sink.
“Waikato district residents have told us the number of wastewater overflows that have occurred in recent times is unacceptable. In response to this, Council is undertaking a range of work including a district-wide public education programme which is aimed to let people know what can and can’t be put down the loo and kitchen sink,” Cr Thomson says.
“By making this problem visible at market days and stalls we hope everyone takes on board the messages we’re trying to get out there. Make sure you stop by for a chat,” she says.
