Para Kore Wananga at Poihakena Marae

130214ParaKoreRegististrations are now open for a Para Kore Wananga at Poihakena Marae, Whaingaroa / Raglan for 22nd March to 24th March 2013

E te iwi, nau mai haere mai ki tā tātau hui Para Kore.

Think about something you’ve bought lately. It takes alot of energy in the forms of electricity and fuel to transform raw materials, sourced from pristine environments, into the everyday resources we use. It causes pollution and waste along the way too – this is before it even gets to the shops where we purchase it! By attending this workshop you’ll gain a deeper understanding about how our waste is actually a resource and how we can change our behaviour towards waste.

There will be site tours of Xtreme Waste and Solscape where we will visit their new Conscious Cafe and learn more about hot composting. At Poihakena Marae we’ll see how their Para Kore systems work, learn more about Hungry Bin worm farming, local purchasing and we’ll look at how to maintain garden boxes.

Cawthron Institute will be there too to share information on water and what we can do to make sure we’re not contributing to the degradation of our waterways.

If you came last time, we’ve made big efforts to ensure that this year’s programme is different so that you will have new experiences and learning. We’ll also have Para Kore marae giving short presentations on how the programme is operating on their marae, so you can hear first hand what the benefits are and what can be achieved.

Many thanks to the Waste Minimisation Fund, which is administered by the Ministry for the Environment, Wel Energy Trust and Trust Waikato for their support of this workshop.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Ka mihi te ngākau
