Amour the latest film by acclaimed French director Michael Haneke is about an ultimate test to love.

The film chronicles the transition octogenarian couple Georges and Anne have to make when one half of the relationship suffers a stroke resulting in a steady demise into the realm of dementia.

Georges played with great conviction by Jean-Louis Trintignant becomes chief caregiver to wife Anne Emmanuelle Riva after she makes him promise to care for her; to not leave her to die in a hospital or home.

What ensues is an intimate insight into a journey most of us fear. However, far from depressing, the audience is buoyed by the concept that love is eternal and will prevail.

Exquisitely shot in the elegant surroundings of Georges and Anne’s Parisian apartment, these two retired musical teachers are a duet still obviously very much in love.

Accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, primarily piano pieces in accordance with the couples past, the music becomes synonymous with the emotion felt which can otherwise not be conveyed.
