With only a few days remaining in the 2016 local body elections, just 19.4% of registered voters have sent in their voting slips. Of the 3731 voters registered for the Raglan ward only 725 have voted.

So come on people get your voting papers back today.  Wednesday 5th is the last day to send your vote in by mail.  You can still pop it in the box at the Raglan Library until noon on Saturday 8th October.

Local body elections ought to be of interest to every Raglander. WDC, WRC and WDHB oversee essential services that are much closer to the daily lives of most people than the issues in parliamentary elections. The problem seems to be that the overseeing role given to elected councils in Ngaruawahia and Hamilton is too far removed for effective government. Council staff now seem to make most of the decisions that matter on roading, footpaths, public transport, water supply and drainage.
