Media Release: Waikato District Council, 5 October 2015
The Raglan Library and Waikato District Council Office will soon be offering extended hours with its very first late night on Wednesday 14 October.
Every Wednesday doors will remain open until 8pm with full library services available, as well as accepting and receipting of payments, taking hall bookings and completing dog registrations.
An online survey conducted last year found that 83% of library respondents favoured an increased level of service for libraries. During this year’s Long Term Plan (LTP) consultation the public was asked to consider two options – an increase of hours or leave opening hours as they are. The majority of the responses were in favour of an extension of library hours.
Customer Support Manager, Sue Duignan says, “We are excited to be able to offer our customers more access to our library and some council services outside of regular hours.
“Extending the hours of opening will make it easier for daytime workers, students, business people and clubs to make use of our facilities. It will give our customers the chance to do some council business after hours. “
Raglan Library and Office is the first of Waikato District Council’s six libraries to offer an extension of hours, with the remaining to be rolled out over the coming months.
Good, but it wasn’t one of Raglan’s priorities. What’s happened to Raglan’s top 5 priorities?
As recorded in the Community Board minutes – page 6 of https://www.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/Documents-Library/Files/Your-Council/Agendas-2015/140210_RCB_Agenda.aspx –
The top five wishes of the community are to be forwarded to Council for inclusion in the Long Term Plan. Mr Dixon is keen to see swimming pools constructed on land at Papahua. Copy of the Raglan Community Board workshop notes as follows:
1. Footpaths – $400k is in this year’s Annual Plan. It was noted that footpath upgrades and certainly new footpaths must be 2m wide.
2. Heated Swimming Pool – acknowledged that this is a very big ticket item and most unlikely to happen in the next 5 years. Raglan simply not big enough. We agreed that a courtesy meeting with the swimming club committee would be a good thing to do. Linda agreed to arrange.
3. CBD Parking – an ongoing issue. The new parking spaces in James Street will soon be available. Strong interest expressed by Raglan County Board for the bottom of Stewart Street be developed for parking.
4. New Footpath Whale Bay to Manu Bay – as stated before there are some outstanding Iwi issues to be resolved. We
recommend that this project be costed and included in the LTP.
Tony can you make arrangements for this?
5. Public Transport – Raglan Community Board to put in a submission at next Board Meeting on Tuesday 2nd December in time for close of WRC proposal.
