ISSUED BY MetService AT 8:34am 24-Jan-2011 URGENT – IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Bay Of Plenty Rotorua, Taupo, Taihape, Taranaki, Taumarunui, Wanganui, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Coromandel Peninsula MEDIA ANOTHER BRIEF BURST OF RAIN FOR NORTHERN HAWKES BAY. ALL OTHER WARNINGS LIFTED.
A deep low is moving eastwards over the central North Island and weakening. An associated rain band that extends from Waikato southwards to Cook Strait, is also moving eastwards and weakening.
Heavy rain is still affecting parts of Taranaki, Wanganui and Tongariro National Park. However, this rain should ease very soon.
Another burst of heavy rain is likely to affect northern Hawkes Bay as the rain band moves across this area, and there could be another 20 to 30mm there between 11am and 4pm Monday. The heavy rain warning for this area will be extended for another few hours, but all other heavy rain warnings are now lifted. Northeast gales about Coromandel Peninsula have eased a little and turned northwesterly. A period of southwesterly gales is likely there from later this morning, however, winds are expected to remain below severe gale force. The wind warning for Coromandel Peninsula is lifted, but the area will remain on watch.
