Raglan’s new Rip Curl store opened at 9 Bow Street in time for Labour weekend, in the former premises of Raglan Video. The Raglan Rip Curl is a joint venture between Raglan Surfing Emporium’s John Clapham and corporate surf clothing company Rip Curl. The company is in the top three surfing brands internationally. The Raglan store is the sixth Rip Curl store in Raglan. Good to see Rip Curl in town. I’ve always found their stores to be well laid, with good service and a well displayed range.
Rip Curl installed two large Noosa style photo adverts on the side wall of its store on the Volcom Lane wall opposite the YOT Club. One featured Mick Fanning on the water while the other featured a bikini beach shot. Rip Curl soon experienced some Raglan discipline on Facebook about the bikini beach advert and it was soon removed. There is an underlying vibe in Raglan and when people and organisations cross the line they are quickly told about it. Also missing is the Facebook post that said the image was sexist.
The Volcom Lane wall now features a blank black glossy panel and a Mick Fanning advert. It will be interesting to see what Rip Curl puts back up. This wall would be ideal for a Raglan surfing wall of fame rather than large glossy adverts.
