Nov 14: Raglan Community Board meeting

This summary of the Raglan Community Board agenda prepared by

The next Board meeting is Tuesday 14 November at 2pm in the Town Hall Supper Room. The public forum starts at 1.30pm, giving an opportunity to discuss issues, but you can also contact the Community Board members who are:- Alan VinkBob MacLeodGabrielle ParsonLisa ThomsonPJRangi KereopaTony Oosten.

The agenda includes –

  1. December meeting proposed to be scrapped and instead, Boards to meet WDC.
  2. Public exclusion planned to discuss Kopua Holiday Park 2016/7 Annual Report.
  3. Sewage spills – 2 overflows in each of July and Aug (no detail, so probably minor). In response to RCB offer to follow up – “Staff are working on developing reporting mechanisms”. ‘What Not to Flush’ publicity items to be ordered.
  4. Raglan Naturally mainly building relationships with community members who will be involved in the review. Deadline for Long Term Plan missed, so aiming for District Plan submissions in April, but no timetable set. $875 spent in Sep/Oct.
  5. Soccer Fields – Resurfacing “Staff are in the initial phases of project planning”.
  6. Raglan Coastal Reserves 14 Aug, 11 Sep, 9 Oct minutes. Meet 5.30pm Mon 13 Supper Room. DK Surf School Consent to Trade at beach “being reviewed through the Wainui Reserve Management update process in 2018/19”.
  7. Raglan Hall Committee minutes to be in RCB agenda [not in this one].
  8. Mowing12 Main Rd does “not fit the policy criteria” for council mowing.
  9. Footpath steam cleaning & drain sumps – done 6 monthly. Just completed.
  10. Whale Bay Access Way “Prices are being sought to construct a walkway at the bottom of the stairs.”
  11. Wainui Road Gorse and Pampas Grass – “wet weather has impacted on planned spraying programmes. Inspections are ongoing and programmes will shortly be finalised.”
  12. Scout hut swings – “Staff are still awaiting a response from the Scouts Club. Can the Community Board advise who the appropriate local contact is to progress this matter”!
  13. Decorative lights – “Lights will be removed during March / April”.
  14. Planting of Domain banks – “No further update” [despite last report that scoping to be done by 11 Aug]
  15. Designated park for electric charging marking “to be corrected with the next remarking cycle in February”.
  16. Service Request Report improved 2% in last 3 months to 89%. Worst was 36% (9) for ‘Reserve Issues’ (was 63%). 21 of 89 (106 of 441 in previous 3mths) ‘District Plan Enquiries’ too slow.
  17. Discretionary fund has $13,732. Plastic Bag Free wants $4,100 for visitor education, Surfside wants $3,500 for Christmas in the Park, Lions want $1,775 for New Year’s Eve parade.
  18. Youth rep – going to tertiary study in 2018. New rep to be appointed.
  19. Treaty of Waitangi Workshop – more to follow. Also Local Government workshop – “Racism is still alive in many councils”. Submission to ‘Inquiry into 2016 local authority elections’ said forming council Māori wards should be the same as establishing other wards – WDC deciding Maaori representation on Mon 13.

Not on the RCB agenda, but on Council agenda Mon 13 – public excluded from Water Council Controlled Organisation Phase II Project Funding report.

Should WED be taking up this, or any other issues missing from the agenda, such as Long Term Plan (many council workshops held), footpaths, Karioi walking/biking track (despite promise of a “further update” for this meeting), cutting trees on reserves, freedom camping patrols, toilets, glyphosate, Trails Strategy ($278,280 to be spent in 2018), volunteer worker safety, social housing, parking, parking infringement money, harbour lease, coastguard lease, Puriri Park, buses, cycleways, or land disposal of sewage?
