After the disappointing decision to allow seabed mining to proceed on our beautiful west coast KASM needs all the support it can to appeal this decision. An independent group supporting this cause is hosting a Spanish night at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre featuring the movie “The Olive Tree”. It seemed like an appropriate movie with a theme of a spiritual and emotional connection to nature versus a large corporate company.

Join us for tapas and nibbles included in the ticket price of $25, (alcohol can be purchased).
There will be an auction to raise extra funds to help support KASM before the screening.

  • Doors open at 6.30pm
  • Auction at 7pm
  • Movie at 8pm

This Spanish movie (with English subtitles) is about a 2000 year old Olive tree from a family farm uprooted and sold to an energy company in Germany for their foyer. With an award winning performance from lead actress Anna Castillo as she attempts to bring it back to its rightful place.

Stuff 4.5/5 Stars. “There is a lot – a hell of a lot – to like about The Olive Tree. The architecture of a road-trip movie, an eco-fable and an odd-couple romance are all well established. And The Olive Tree doesn’t do anything to challenge the conventions. But it is a deceptively well written film, with sly humour and well-earned pathos breaking out all over the show.”
