No coffee at the cafes

Visitors to Raglan on Saturday morning were greeted by, ‘No coffee’ signs at Raglan cafes. At a time when most cafes had just opened and customers were rolling up for a dose of caffeine, the power went off making espresso machines into pleasant decorative pieces.    For those cafes with gas cooking, the  power cut that hit Raglan meant that they could keep cooking big breakfasts.

WEL Networks’ spokesperson Brendan Moloney advised that the outage on Saturday morning, 29 January was caused by a large branch falling across the 33kV lines close to the Te Uku Substation. The outage occurred at 9:20am and power was restored fully at 10:43am. A total of 2983 customers were affected.
