Newsflash: Council opens Wainui Road for 15-16 Sep

WDC has listened to the community after last weekend’s overloading of the Gilmour St detour. Wainui Road will be opened to vehicle traffic for this weekend for 15-16 Sep only. There is still no word from the Council on mowing the wide verges in Stewart Street to provide parking spaces to alleviate the problem caused by the removal of all day parks in Wainui Road while the stormwater culvert project is underway.

The Council said that as the weather forecast was pretty good for Raglan this weekend they asked their stormwater project contractors to open up Wainui Rd on Saturday and Sunday to ease congestion on detour routes.

The contractor (Connell) has advised that speed restrictions will be in place. While progress on the project has been good, surface reinstatement remains to be done on Wainui Road.

The road will be closed off again on Monday as work continues on the project.

Waikato District Council has thanked the people of Raglan for their patience while this important work is done.
