Work has started near the Raglan Wastewater Treatment Plant on the new Whaanga Coast sewer project along Wainui Road. The black plastic sewer pipe is being installed by Directional Drilling, a subcontractor to the main contractor Spartan Construction. This first stage of work involves digging access pits, drilling horizontally underground between the pits and then pulling the black pipe into the drill holes.

The project is scheduled to take 18 weeks from its Friday 1st November start date through until the end of March 2014. Waikato District Council has allocated a project budget of $2.6 million for the works. Sixty six properties have now signed to be connected to the scheme.

Wainui Road and Whaanga Road will remain open at all times however traffic management systems will be in place and at various times traffic may be down to one lane. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are urged to take care in the area. To avoid disruptions to traffic and the community, the Waikato District Council has included a ‘stop work’ phase across the Christmas and New Year holiday period. All construction will stop between Friday 20 December 2013 until Sunday 12 January 2014 and the area will be returned to its original state.
