Waikato Mayor Peter Harris announced on Tuesday 10th August that the long delayed Raglan Information Centre and Museum project was now looking positive. At the Raglan Community Board meeting, Richard Bax had just finished summarising how Council had three tenders for the museum project and had met with the preferred contractor that same morning to discuss pricing issues. He said, “My Facilities Manager will now prepare a report for Council’s CEO recommending how to progress the project.”
In a hushed voice, Mayor Harris asked Mr Bax, “Is it fair to say that as of today, there is no reason to think it won’t proceed?” Mr Bax responded in an even softer inaudible voice. A resident at the meeting asked if the recently announced loss of $100,000 project funding meant that ratepayers will be covering the cost. Mayor Harris said that ratepayers were not funding this project.
