Thirty six Raglan Artists are participating in a 3 day Open Studio Event Weekend on Auckland Anniversary Weekend, January 29th, 30th, 31st 2011. For the three days painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media, textile, jewellery, and other artists will open their studios to the public for viewing.
A number of the artists and their works will be at the Old School Arts Centre in Stewart Street:
Denise Fort, Ethereal Designs, Patricia Strauss, Sarah Steed, The Clay Shed potters, Trevor Penfold, Yann Bordier, and Kathie Parres.
Visitors will be able to meet artists, see their working processes and be inspired. This is a unique opportunity to see into the studio of an artist and to catch a glimpse of what goes into making their art.
The participating artists are all listed as part of a revitalized and expanded Raglan Art Trail Guide, the official Open Studio Weekend Guide. The guide is available now from the Raglan Information Centre, Raglan Old School Arts Centre, partipcipating artists and I-sites throughout the region or you can download it by clicking here. This publication provides information and contact details, enabling interested members of the public to make one-on-one contact with the artists, and possibly arrange a visit at a time to suit. Our gorgeous new Raglan Art Trail Guide 2011 (designed by local graphic designer Glen Mossong) lists 44 Raglan artists, most of whom will be taking part in the Open Studio Weekend. Glen has set up a free portfolio website for artists in conjunction with the release of the new guide. More info here, just by clicking on the banner… http://thereformation.co.nz/ Glen says, “Hopefully it will encourage more artists to get online, because lots aren’t and many that are aren’t doing it very elegantly.”
Local businesses will be participating during the weekend to promote the event which we are marketing to the wider Waikato, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, and other areas. We have support from CCNZ, Raglan Community Board, Skycity, twenty three local businesses, and the Raglan Arts Council. We expect a lot of locals, Waikato, Auckland, and other visitors to make the trip to Raglan for the weekend, which is typically one of Raglan’s most vibrant summer periods.
