New Medical Centre float wins first in Raglan New Year’s Eve Parade

Project Build It – first prize in the community section

A float entered by Project Build It, the community team working to build Raglan’s new Medical Centre, won the first prize in the Community section of the 2015 Raglan Lions New Year’s Eve Parade. Other winners in that section were 2nd Rua-Mata Zoo (Ruapuke Community) and 3rd Raglan Coastguard.

Recycling the 100 year old Raglan Dairy Factory building

In the Sustainable section, Jurassic park Mt Karioi (Junior Soccer) came in 1st with the Elf Electric Bike on 2nd and the recycled Dairy Factory and Van coming in 3rd.

The Angel of Peace promoting world peace

Coming first in Educate, Safety was Raglan Surf Life Saving, with Angel of Peace (Stuart Shepherd) 2nd and Annexa on 3rd.

In the Bike or Anything on Wheels was the Boy in the red shirt (Lucien Kite). His Mum says he is one happy kid and so pleased with the prize that it will be a NEW Helmet and a surf bag. The Te Mata Bride & Groom Picnic Car came in 2nd with the Ray White Quad bike on 3rd.

The Judges Special award went to a family float promoting camping at the Raglan Kopua Holiday Park. Well done Fire Fighters.

Raglan Lions Club members, closely followed by the Raglan Caledonian Pipe band led the parade. First the parade went East, following the usual route of up Bow St, round the palm outside the Town Hall and then down Bow St. down and around Bow Street till both directions were full, then it went round again.

Lions Club President Bob Macleod was very pleased with the overall involvement of the community and the respect paid to the “No water policy”. The parade was watched by very big enthusiastic crowd. Many had come out from Hamilton for the evening just to see the parade.

The Wardens for their presence within the crowd and the continuing support of the Raglan Pipe Caledonian Band which makes it Raglan’s iconic parade, Thank You.”

    1. Yes that would have been good. The post was based on notes taken quickly on the night. I’ve asked the Lions for a copy of the official results and will add the boy’s name when I have them.
