The Clay Shed at the Raglan Old School Art Centre took delivery of a new kiln on Saturday 27th. The old kiln was on its last legs and the new kiln is a welcome replacement for members of the Clay Shed at the Old School. The money for the new kiln came from a very successful fund-raising fiesta held in February by the Clay Shed members. The St Lazarus Trust topped up the fund-raising with a generous donation of $5,000.
The new kiln project was led by Susanne Prinz. The kiln itself was made by Henk de Jong of Furnace Engineering Ltd in Auckland. A team of people from Rosetree Enterprises, Raglan Eco Windows installed the kiln assisted by the loan of a fork lift from the Raglan SuperValue.
The Raglan Community Arts Council says it expects the new kiln to be commissioned and in operation soon. In the intervening period, clay classes are being held in the St Lazarus Studio, behind the Old School.
