While walking in Bow St on Saturday morning I was ambushed by Barbara Kuriger (National candidate for Taranaki-King Country), during her lengthy stay in Raglan. Having been recently checking out party policies on Climate Change, I decided to ask her what National’s policy was. The Interest website has a comparison on all policies and I was surprised to learn that neither National nor Labour have a published policy on Climate Change. As you might expect the Greens do have a policy as do ACT and NZ First.
Barbara did answer my query on National’s Climate Change policy and what she told me was, “We are working with people around the world and will take a science based approach. There is disagreement among scientists and when they agree on the nature of the problem and when it will occur National will formulate a policy.”
I commented to Barbara that most scientists already agreed on these issues. She repeated that National will formulate a policy when all scientists agree. I told her that I had heard what she said and bid her farewell. So it seems that National is going to wait for the remaining 3% of scientists, who disavow man-made climate change is occurring, to change their mind before National gets around to formulating a policy.
A few people took exception to Barbara parking her car outside The Shack on Saturday for several hours in a one hour parking zone. One person even made a video of a note about this left on her car (see below). While Barbara was lucky that Ngaruawahia hadn’t sent the parking warden to Raglan that day, I’m pleased to see Barbara in town. She has already spent more time in Raglan than Shane Arden did the entire time he was the MP.
Well done for getting an answer. I’m still waiting to hear about insurance for oil drilling spills and whether National really believes, despite the evidence, that rivers are cleaner. Maybe Barbara’s saying she represents the 3%?
