Media Release: Waikato District Council, 10 December 2013
The Waikato District Libraries’ mascot needs a name and WDC wants to hear your suggestions!
For a number of years the Waikato Libraries’ kiwi has been a familiar face within our libraries and we have decided it’s time for a name.
What do you think the libraries’ kiwi should be called? Put forward your suggestion and WDC will select their favourite name from each Waikato district library; Tuakau, Meremere, Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Ngaruawahia and Raglan.
The six finalists will be announced on 17 January 2014 at a finalists’ party with all entrants invited (details to come) and members of the public will then be asked to vote for their favourite.
The overall winner will be revealed on 28 January 2014.
Entries open Friday 20 December, so pick up an entry form from your local library or download one now: www.waikatodc.govt.nz/Facilities/Library/Library-News.aspx
Entries close 15 January and you must be aged 4 – 12 years to enter.
Kiwis haven’t been seen in this area for about 50 years and the map at http://www.mfe.govt.nz/environmental-reporting/land/distribution-seven-native-species-indicator/kiwi/index.html/ confirms there’s none in the WDC area. Maybe ‘Extinct’ would be an appropriate name in a district which still allows loss of native vegetation?
Looks like a logo for the consultant used for the work done on the Raglan Spartial Plan.
