A new exhibit in the Raglan Museum sees the museum go a shade of red to remember the Raglan men who went to the First World War. The Raglan Knitting Circle has been busy knitting 100 poppies for the Raglan Museum. The poppies are now on display in the Museum to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War. The number 100 has a special significance for Raglan Whaingaroa as just over 100 men from the area served in the war.
The idea for knitting the poppies came from an article in Auto Age magazine about a group in Auckland that was knitting poppies for a display in Auckland. Our local knitters decided they could get knitting for the Raglan Museum. The committee of the Museum Society agreed and the result is the exhibit that forms the first part of the Museum’s WW1 exhibition. The main part of the exhibit will open in 2015.
The Raglan Knitting Circle meets every Wednesday from 10am at the Banteay Srey cafe in Bow St.
