A poem by Hayley Hamilton  in the window of the Jet Collective in Bow St laments Mr Four Square’s departure from Raglan.  “We are missing you already Mr Four Square, you and your lovely sleek black hair,  your big smiley grin, ……”  (The Raglan Supermarket changes from the Four Square franchise to the Super Value franchise on Thursday 23 at noon.)

It appears though that Mr Four Square has not left Raglan. The unconfirmed rumours that Mr Four Square and his close friend Pam have been hiding in the pohutukawa trees in Bow St appear to be true.

Investigations by the Raglan Website have found that the now vacant land at 3 Bankart St, where the brick house was demolished last week, is owned by Ken and Lesley Curtis who own and operate the Four Square in Pirongia. Well known Waikato businessman and Foodstuffs Director, Glenn Miller is another listed owner of the property.

Mr and Mrs Curtis opened the Pirongia Four Square in 2008. Before that they owned the Waihi Beach Four Square. Mr Curtis worked as a buyer for Pak‘N’ Save in the 10 years prior to them taking over the Waihi Beach store. After doubling turnover at the Waihi Beach Four Square in the first year, they rebuilt it using a design that they used again at Pirongia. When the Raglan Website visited the Pirongia Four Square, we found a bright friendly well run supermarket  that would fit in well in Raglan.

So it may not be too long before Mr Four Square is busy again in Raglan.
