The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a motorbike injury on a farm overlooking the Raglan harbour at approximately 1020 this morning. A 14yr old Cambridge boy had fractured his upper right leg after crashing off his bike at an organised event. Medical staff at the event called the helicopter in due to the serious nature of the injury and the difficulty accessing the hill country location. He was treated by St John Paramedics before being flown to Waikato Hospital.
Immediately following, the helicopter was then tasked to Tauranga Hospital with a specialist New Born Intensive Care flight team to retrieve a locally born premature baby who was flown back to Waikato Hospital for ongoing care.
