Hearing many grumbles around Raglan about the multiple wastewater system spills into the harbour over the last couple of years, so in August 2015 I started a Raglan 23 poll to let Raglanders have a say on this. Another spill occurred during the survey period.
The poll asked people to give their view on the way Waikato District Council manages Raglan’s wastewater system. They could vote for whether this “Needs to be improved a lot”, “Is satisfactory”, “Needs to be improved a bit” or is “Is carried out to a high standard”.
80% of the people completing the survey said, “Needs to be improved a lot”. 98 people took part in the poll. In market research speak, 80% is many times the statistical error, so it is highly likely that most people in Raglan hold the view that “WDC needs to improve a lot the way it manages the wastewater system”.
The full survey results are listed below.
I asked Waikato District Council about the findings from the poll.
Tim Harty, General Manager, Service Delivery said,
“Last year Council focused on improving the operational systems we use to control our wastewater network across the district. This included investment in Raglan. As a result 90 per cent of respondents to Council’s Annual Satisfaction Survey indicated they were satisfied with the wastewater services within the district.
In Raglan, Council has been commended for site improvements by Waikato Regional Council. There are still improvements underway to address minor issues around data management and areas within the treatment plant process.
This year Council is also investing approximately $300,000 into the Raglan wastewater reticulation with system storage being installed at key sites.
We anticipate satisfaction levels with Raglan’s wastewater services will continue to improve.”
