Update 07.08.15, 4.49pm Media advisory from Waikato District CouncilAll clear for Raglan Harbour

Please note – the ‘no shellfish collection’ signs have been removed from Raglan Harbour this afternoon (Friday 7th August).

Waikato District Council reported on Saturday 1st August that:

“A wastewater overflow has been reported on Greenslade Road at 4.50pm. Staff are in attendance and an unknown quantity of wastewater has entered the harbour. The overflow has been stopped and staff are currently fixing the issue and  cleaning the site. WDC will try to  ascertain the amount of the overflow and report  via back email.
regards”

Martin Mould
Waters Manager
Waikato District Council

There have been no updates issued by the Council overnight.  So take care harbour users as a small amount of raw wastewater was released into the harbour.

  1. On 16 May you reported “acceleration of a project to improve the radio control system (SCADA) that monitors WDC’s wastewater network”. Does this latest sewage leak show it’s not been accelerated enough?

    1. I would have thought that the SCADA should have reported firstly that the pump had failed, and then that the tank was overflowing. This should have give Ngaruawahia ample time to respond. Comments on Facebook indicate that WDC did not know about it until residents reported the spill into the harbour. I’ve asked WDC about this.
