Monday 3rd June: Serious crash on SH 23 west of Whatawhata

Emergency services responded to a serious crash on Monday 3rd June State Highway 23 west of Whatawhata, Waikato District.

It happened around 5:45pm when two cars collided about 7 km west of Whatawhata.

One car went off the road and the trapped occupant was freed with assistance from Fire and Emergency. They were taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

Traffic was diverted along Waitetuna Valley Road and Ferguson Road, and motorists were asked to avoid the area if at all possible.  At 7.40pm, NZTA advised that SH 23 was reopened.
