Mayor says Te Uku walking and cycling project stunning

Mayor Allan Sanson

Mayor of Waikato District, Allan Sanson, said, “Possibly our most stunning project yet is the walking and cycle track over the Te Uku Wind Farm site.” Meridian Energy and Waikato District Council are working with local landowners and iwi to open the track in the next two months.

The approximate 18km round trip will take cyclists and hikers over the former Raglan coach road to the summit and will give a close-up experience of the 137 metre high turbines in action. The site’s views take in Waikato farmland, Hamilton City, Raglan and Aotea harbours and local mountains, Pirongia and Karioi.

Meanwhile access to the wind farm site which is on private land is strictly off limits and there will be no public vehicle access.

  1. Sounds awesome! Please let us know the time / where it starts and we’ll be over – a change from our usual Whaka Forest outings.

    Cheers
