On Wednesday 28th May, Raglan Ramblers will be heading off on a new walk in the Ed Hillary Hope Bush Reserve. This is the new NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust Reserve, located up near the divi summit, then on Karamu Walkway to Old Mountain Rd. The 275 hectares of rough farmland straddling State Highway 23 between Hamilton and Raglan moved in 2013 from the Hope family estate to the NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust for just over $1m. It took take the name of the trust’s original patron and entered the public domain as the Ed Hillary Hope Bush Reserve. You’ll need to bring your lunch for this one.
Walks usually start 9am Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (next to Raglan Fire Station). There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook
Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
