Art with glimpses of adventure, magic, mystery, and swirly skirts
Artist Ailene Cuthbertson creates worlds full of magic and mystery in her first solo exhibition at ArtsPost Galleries and Shop, Hamilton from the 26 May to the 26 June. With the help of digital magic, she and her dancer models tell their stories and bring their dreams, hopes and love to life.
Ailene started her artist life 4 years ago through The Learning Connexion School of Creativity & Art after a nightmarish experience at her stuck-behind-a-desk job. Now, newly graduated with an Honours Diploma, she’s embarking on the next step of her art journey: letting her bold, bright heroines swirl and fly through her first solo exhibition.
“Of dreams and hopes and love” brings together glimpses of stories from 3 dancers. Paige is 15, and is going to be a professional ballerina. She dreams of twirling, skirts flying and pointe shoes whispering, through love, joy, heartbreak, revenge, and an ultimate act of forgiveness, in the hauntingly romantic ballet, Giselle. Elena is a belly dancer, inspired to dance by one of the greatest love stories you’ve probably never heard of: a slave girl who captured the heart of a sultan. He named her Hürrem, “the cheerful one”, and wrote poems to her eyes. And the artist herself, who reads too many fantasy novels and steps into her own wondrous adventures. Explore the wasteland of the fire dancers, awaken legends, seek a Waylight, feel the fire. Every scene invites you to be drawn in, wonder about them, and see where the stories take you.
