Karioi should have been next week’s walk for Raglan Ramblers, but, as they’re not sure when the myrtle rust ban will be lifted, that walk will be postponed to 13 June.

The wlak on May 2nd will now see the Ramblers off to Waikato’s peat lake area with walks at Lake Ngaroto and Yarndley’s Bush.

Around the largest of the Waipa peat lakes, Lake Ngaroto, near Te Awamutu, the wlak has a six kilometre track. Then there will be a much shorter walk to visit the nearby 14.5 hectare Yarndleys Bush, gazetted as Scenic Reserve in 1992, on account of being a remnant of once plentiful kahikatea bush. Trees average a height of 35 metres, with ferns, grass, mahoe, mangahonge, pukatea, wheki, ponga and mapou also growing there. A viewing platform allows the trees to be seen from above ground level. Please bring your lunch for this one.

Walks usually start 9 am, Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (next to Raglan Fire Station). There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/ .

Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
