May 17: Ramblers head up Karioi from Ruapuke

On the 17th May, Raglan Ramblers will be climbing Karioi from the Ruapuke side. This is a nine kilometre walk up our local volcano, through montane bush, with great views from the 756m summit. Please bring your lunch.

DOC rates the difficulty of the walk as “advanced” so you do need a good level of fitness.

Other things to note. Parts of the track will be a bit slippery/greasy because of the rain we’ve been having, so do wear boots (or stout shoes) with a good tread. Pole (poles) recommended. If it’s a fine, clear day Ramblers say they could see Mt. Taranaki from the top.

As usual, they’ll meet at James Street at 9am and carpool from there. If some Ramblers prefer an alternative walk (Kaitoke walkway? Wainui Bush Reserve?), they may organise that on the morning.
