Maungatawhiri Road seal extension underway

Waikato District Council has advised that the seal extension project in Maungatawhiri Road, just outside Raglan is underway. The works, valued at $578,915.20, are being constructed by Potter Contracting Waikato Ltd and will be completed by 30 June 2011. The contract also includes Somerset Lane off Maungatawhiri Road.

Project summary

Maungatawhiri Road is a metalled rural road in Whaingaroa Ward south of Raglan, extending from Highway 23 (Hamilton – Raglan) to the Te Mata Road/Houchen Road intersection.

Project description

The project length is from end of seal at R.P. 1,170 to RP 2,640 and also includes construction to sealing standard of Somerset Lane, a minor side road 123m in length.

The design involves overlaying the existing pavement with some changes to the vertical and horizontal alignments where required. The volume of earthworks for this project is 7,740m3 and requires Resource Consent.

New pavement is to be constructed with a 150mm deep layer of WHAP65 rock subbase, overlaid with 180mm TNZ AP40 basecourse. The completed pavement is then to be sealed with grade 3 chipseal to a width of 6.0m-7.0m on bends.
