Matariki celebrations in Whāingaroa start on Friday 14th July with the opening of a gallery installation at Raglan Old School Arts Centre on Matariki day Friday 14 July 10am – 2pm. The Arts Centre says join us for a cuppa and meet the artists. Exhibition also open 10-2 Saturday 15, Sunday 16 then weekdays 10-2 till 28 july.
Featuring seven art works to represent the history and teachings of seven of the whētu of the Matariki constellation.
A colloboration between local artists Jason Messant and Dallas Mihinui. Jason has been honing his skills in mixed media art for the past 2 years. Originally a graffiti artist/street artist, Jason has blended skills in both graphics and visual art to get the perfect marriage of his two passions. Dallas is a local mural artist who loves to engage in community projects.
All works available for sale as a silent auction.
On Saturday 15th at from 5pm to 8pm, Lights at Papahua is on at the Papahua Skate Park. There will be a free BBQ and soup available. So come along and enjoy some skateboarding, lights and music.
Nau mai hoki mai! Celebrate Matariki 2023 with the Clay Shed at Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 12noon, Saturday 15 July – play with colour and design to decorate a pair of dip bowls to share kai over Matariki and beyond, or choose another shape from our collection. And Xtreme Zero Waste advise that kerbside collections on Friday 14th July will run as usual in the kowhai area. The recycling centre will be closed. Waikato District Council advises that their offices, libraries and pounds will be closed for Matariki, Friday 14 July.
