Raglan movie lovers are invited to dig out their Swannies, polish up their gumboots and pull on their beanies for the Raglan premiere of Taika Waititi’s new film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

40 local cinemas around the country will be screening the movie at the same time on Wednesday 30 March, ahead of its nationwide release on 31 March. And the cinema that creates the best buzz on social media will win a visit from director Taika Waititi (who previously directed Boy) and stars of the film Julian Dennison and Sam Neill.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is based on Barry Crump’s novel, Wild Pork and Watercress and follows the exploits of Ricky, a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle (Neill) in the wild New Zealand bush. A national manhunt ensues, forcing the two to put aside their differences and work together in this hilarious and heartfelt adventure.

The #raglantown screening of the film will include a kaumatua barbeque, cash bar and live feed from the Auckland premiere. MC for the evening will be Billy Black who, weather permitting, will be bringing along his Harley Trike-riding kune kune Jonah! And to really add to the spirit of the evening, great prizes will be up for grabs for the best dressed movie goers:

* Book prize for best decorated Swannie.
* Special prize for best pair of old gumboots (e.g shiniest old pair, most artfully decorated).
* Special prize for the best beanie.
* Special prize for arriving on the best bush transport. Toyota Ute, Hog, Mini Moke or horse!

“Perfectly balanced blend of drama and comedy, action and heart. What makes Wilderpeople memorable is how attached audiences become to the characters, and as played by Dennison and Neill, they are two fully realized, full of flaws but nonetheless oh-so loveable human beings.” The Hollywood Reporter.
